Yesterday we took the kids out hiking because the middle one needs to do milked for his hiking badge for Boy Scouts. Since it was warm and cloudy it was the perfect day for hiking. We did the gravel path by our house. On this bath there other dirt paths it we didn’t check to see how high the river and creek was off of the gravel path. It’s a 1.3 mile walk down to the river and Alfred 1.3 miles back. So that made it a 2.6 mile walk to the car. I’m glade we decided to drive there vs. walking from the house there. The kids would have been ready tired from that.

They have walked mlre then 2.6 miles every summer when we do cedar point .. I just New they would complain and I wanted to go to store after the hike so that is also why I wanted to bring it with.

As an avid hiker myself, I would have opted to walk the distance rather than drive. My son would have elected the same thing. We love to go hiking and backpacking as often as we can.

But for a 6 year, 8 year and 4 year old an additional 1 mile to the parking lot from our house to the start of the trail might be a bit much since we don’t hike often. He has to do 10 miles total then we where going to the store after the hike so it’s easy to just drive.

@ShyBear88 Yeah, that might be too long of a distance for children so young. My son is a teenager, so much easier for him to make that trek.

@moffittjc they do pretty good with amusement parks with that none stop walking but since they get on rides they get breaks pretty often.

Even I take the car to where I hike and walk. Once it's over, it's too tiring to walk home. Glad you all had a nice day for a hike!
