Letting Go!

One morning, I spotted in the Church a young mother crying profusely before the Blessed Sacrament. Since I knew the person, who was sobbing, I went to her side, and discreetly asked her what happened. She looked at me, and held my palm tightly, saying “It hurts a lot, Father.” “Why is it?” I asked. “I just brought my son to the catechetical school for pre-schoolers and my little boy gave me a tight hug and told me, ‘Bye, bye mom, see you this afternoon!’”, she continued. “My little boy doesn’t need me anymore!” she sighed.
Sometimes, a mother has to consider the needs of her child more than her maternal instincts. Mother should know how it is to let go. She could not just keep her child imprisoned, eternally dependent on her. The child grows when it fumbles and tumbles along the way. The little bruises will build his character to be strong and not easily swayed by discouragements in life. With a little burn in the fingers after touching a glowing candle, a child remembers this small tragedy in the future, especially in regard to handling fire.
So is that with our trials in the day to day life. So is that with our country the Philippines which is suffering the furies of a storm, just running amok. I take refuge in the Christian ideal that suffering makes us strong, and it builds one’s character. When we weather these trials in life, we could be of help to other people and inspire them to carry on, because we have been through difficulties ourselves. We could be a source of inspiration to many, if we do not give up.

If we follow the pattern of Solomon then there's a time to hold tight and a time to let go.
