My two year old granddaughter told me the other day, " I like the grandma on Halloweentown", which is the late great Debbie Reynolds. My granddaughter has good taste. So, I looked her up because I got curious, because I don't know a lot about her, some, but not a lot. Ms Reynolds was born in 1932 on April Fools Day (April 1st) in El Paso, Texas, USA to Raymond Francis (Ray) and Maxene (Minnie) Harman Reynolds. Mr Reynolds was a carpenter for the Southern Pacific Railroad. and his wife took in laundry to do because they were very poor living in a shack in El Paso. Debbie was of Scottish-Irish and English descent and was raised in a very strict Nazarene church. She was also a Girl Scout and two older brother's. The family moved to Burbank, California in 1939 where Debbie had won beauty contest as a teenager even tho she was thought of in school as just cute and a bit tomboyish. She was married three times, first to singer Eddie Fisher in 1955. They had a daughter Carrie in 1956 and a son Todd in 1958. The couple divorced in 1959 when it was revealed shortly after the death of actress Elizabeth Taylors husband Mike Todd that Eddie and Elizabeth had been having an affair. This caused a huge public scandal and caused the break up of the friendship of Debbie and Elizabeth as well as causing Eddie Fisher's television show to be cancelled. Sometime around the late 1960's or early 1970's Taylor and Reynolds happen to be travelling in the same place and reconciled their friendship. In 1960 Debbie married a second time to a very rich businessman Harry Karl. Then she stopped working on Friday afternoons to attend Girl Scout meetings with her step daughter Tina that was 13 at the time. In 1973 the couple divorced and Debbie found herself in financial hardship due to her husband gambling and bad investments.. Third time is supposed to be the charm! But sadly it did not turn out that way. In 1984 she married a real estate developer Richard Hamlett. They divorced in 1996. Sadly on December 27, 2016 Reynolds daughter Carrie, who was also an actress and a writer died at the age of 60. Mother and daughter were very close and Debbie was very upset. The next day her son Todd who was grieving his sister's death also had to grieve the death of his mother also. Todd said that shortly before his mother had passed due to a stroke she said,"I want to be with Carrie!"
