Feeding the foxes

We have urban foxes living around us. I live on an estate in a busy built up area of Dublin. We have a big green area in the front with trees and a lovely view of the Dublin mountains and I am in a cul de sac. If a stranger was to come in to our little corner of the world they might be forgiven for thinking we are very dirty people. Every night not long before midnight most of the people in the 14 houses on my Crescent go out to the green and throw the days left overs on the grass. We just dump it across from our houses on our lovely green. You could have anything from a leftover chicken to a leg of beef or a cake or sandwiches or bread or a stew. Anything and everything edible gets dumped out on the green at night. Far from being dirty we are killing two birds with one stone. We are getting rid of our waste but it is not wasted. Any night you look out of the windows along my Crescent you can see foxes having a right feast. They run off if anyone goes out or a car comes up but they come back when all is quiet again. There are some people who actually go out late at night and hide in a garden to watch them. I came in one night in my car and they ran off but I sat in the car outside my house with the lights off right beside the green. After about 5 minutes a mother fox with very small babies came right beside my car to eat a pile of chips someone had left. I watched them until the chips were gone and they moved off o another feed further up on the green. They were so close I could have touched them. Its lovely to watch them. I didn't realise how many we had as it is quite dark when they come out .When the snow came last year you could see them really clearly out foraging and playing. Do you have wild life where you live.

@teenal I live on the southern edge of Belfast, not far from the Lagan so we have foxes too and other wild life including naughty people who pee against our hedge on the 12th of July and do naughty things with each other among the trees. When I know it’s going on I do like to sneak up in the dark with a bucket of cold water to dampen their ardour.
