A most humbling gesture for peace.

I was shocked when I saw the picture this morning. I cried. Here's our Pope Francis, down on his knees, kissing the feet of his visitors from Sudan. He said, "I am asking you as a brother to stay in peace. I am asking you with my heart, let us go forward." I recall one incident when medieval Pope Innocent III kissed the foot of Francis of Assisi, in utter admiration, for Francis, in his poverty, put the church to shame. Here is Pope Francis, the 82 year old pontiff, obviously overwhelmed by the arrogance of warring leaders of many nations, humbly begging for peace. I am deeply touched.

Yes. Humility does that. We become speechless.

Yes, the image leaves once speechless. I was shocked initially, mouth agape, and then I cried.

Yes. Pope Francis just set the example on how far we must go down to be humble. It's like, sigh, can I ever do that?

Pope Francis redefines basically the papacy. It makes me proud to be a Catholic christian.

True. I did love JPII, too. He was gregarious and ushered the faithful to the challenges of the new millennium. Benedict XVI was conservative but I look at him as a strict father. I could relate totally with Francis, because he follows the Franciscan rule of life. I could live with the basic necessities. Guilty right now, because my house is cluttered with unnecessary things. And Pope Francis, he's everybody's grampa.
