I'm now a Linux user!

I know I posted awhile back about finding a power cord for my old Window's Vista computer - and then discovering much to my chagrin that Vista is no longer supported and that apparently no browser worked with the now defunct Windows Vista ... Thanks to help from @toffer - I was able install the Ubuntu version or, distribution as I think they call it, of Linux. This is sort of fun -- see, I've always been curious about Linux - even way back in my early days of computer use some 20 years ago, I just never ventured into it. So this little excursion needed me to figure a few things out - how to create a bootable usb drive, how to get BIOS to boot using the usb drive first, and installing Linux from there. As far as how it works - it's been a small learning curve here and there, but very usable and I would recommend it to anyone who is at least a little computer saavy. Any other Linux users here? Interesting link:
In this article, you will learn what Linux is, where Linux came from, what a Linux distribution is and some of the reasons that Linux is favored for certain applications and projects over other operating systems.

@FayeHazel I did find a YouTube video that gave me a better idea but still semed complicated. I guess I am going to be stuck using Windows and a anti-virus.

I installed it once and liked it but then changed computers and went back to windows. Linux is a good system and I think you have revived an older computer into something that works so congrats on that. Anything which is open source is cool in my book unless you have no problem dishing out money for the ones that need to be purchased or leased. Its good people keep contributing to something which is free for anyone to use.

@mynameiskate Ah true. I imagine there aren't as many programs available for Linux, though I was surprised that they do seem to have something similar to Microsoft "apps" store

@FayeHazel the only thing I missed in Linux was some of the programs in windows I had installed and got used to using. But if you look around I guess and willing to try new things you can find what you need or want.

I have my second Linux now - As I got my first, and asked if I need a virus program, and the guy said, you don't need one! he said, and he was right.. Did not see a single virus - when it was time for a new computer, I wanted a new Linux and it has worked well - no viruses

I'm happy you have had good experiences with it too. I'm starting to think that it really is superior to Windows

I’m computer illiterate and prefer to remain so, but I’m happy you were able to do it.
