Three Images on the Longest Gospel Reading

Palm Sunday is most exciting because this is the only Sunday when the faithful come to Mass with intricately decorated branches. Children especially love the trimmings until they notice how they have to stand up and listen to the longest Gospel reading. I still am fascinated by the children's short attention span but am more fascinated at how the parents repress their children. But that is not my story. Today, the Liturgy of the Word delves on Isaiah's prophecy, Paul's letter to the Philippians, and the detailed Gospel of Luke 23: 1-49. Will leave you to check your Bible as an activity for this discussion. What we need to know is that in fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy, and our Lord Who knew that the hour has come for Him to fulfill the prophecy, He was received like a King as He entered Jerusalem. Remember, the Jews were waiting for a Savior, and who would be magnificent and gallant enough to rescue them but a great and noble King. Ecstatically, they laid linen and waved palms, clueless of what is to come. In a matter of hours, our Lord is with His apostles for the last supper. He washed the feet of His apostles like a suffering servant, instituting the Holy Priesthood, before instituting the Holy Communion in the breaking of the Bread. "This is My Body, This is My Blood." Paul emphatically said to the Philippians."Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord." In the Passion, our Lord was like a prophet, His words foreseeing as He tells the weeping women "Pray for your children's children," and to the repentant thief, "Today you will be with Me in Paradise." As we move on to what Filipinos call "Mahal na Araw" or "Semana Santa" or Holy Week, let us reflect on what our Lord Jesus had to go through for us. He was King, Suffering Servant, and Prophet. He endured us in order to save us.

My wife and her volunteer young facilitators were busy yesterday making crosses from palm leaves which were among those that were blessed at dawn today and which they gave to each child in their CLOW (Children's Liturgy of the Word). We have two masses on Sundays out of six which have CLOW for the children. Next week, they will again be busy preparing easter eggs for the children which would sometimes reach more than a hundred in the two masses. They will be color paintng the boiled eggs on Saturday while the rest of us parishioners will be doing our "kenosis" cleaning the church. Have a blessed Palm Sunday, Ms. Eileen and a blessed Holy Week too.

Ooops, I am very sorry, from previous discussion, I thought (which of course, is always wrong), you were female. Sorry. That said, glad to know you and your wife are tending to the upbringing of the children. Palms and Easter Eggs might be symbols pertaining to tradition, but the curiosity begins there. Please continue tending the children with God's encompassing love.. I like CLOW. I will check if we have such a ministry here in my parish. A meaningful Holy Week to you and your wife and your loved ones.

@eileenleyva Thanks, Ms. Eileen, and sorry for this late reply. We went to the mall to have dinner and got curious at the sale at Handyman :) My wife has been tending to the children for something like 10 years now. She took over when her older sister passed away due to cancer. It gives us a sense of happiness when we meet the children who have gone older and they happily remember there experience at CLOW. Some have even become assistant facilitators now. Some of the children sing with the choir with their mothers. My wife and I were with a choir group and we sang in church for 8 years but we stopped because my wife had to attend to her sister and accompanied her for treatment. My wife was our organist and trainor. It was our choir that made us one solid group in the parish. For a year we've also constructed a few homes for Gawad Kalinga beneficiaries when we opted for early retirement from work. We likewise spent a year conducting values formation for coconut farmers in various areas in our province. Now my wife is busy with CLOW and I'm busy with various projects of our cooperative and we're currently constructing a hotel.

I'm glad that you have such a strong faith. So many people today flounder without an anchor.

Man;s intelligence has been classified in eight modalities: Musical-rhythmic and harmonic. Visual-spatial. Verbal-linguistic. Logical-mathematical. Bodily-kinesthetic. Interpersonal. Intrapersonal. Naturalistic A study said that there is also such a thing as spiritual intelligence. Herein lies faith, There are people who have multiple intelligence. Our task is to tell everyone about our Lord.
