Never Expected to See That in My Lifetime

So yesterday I was having a typical normal day. I had been at a forum a few days earlier and members were saying there was this browser extension you could use to earn bitcoins watching videos. I'm thinking: 'Cool! I watch a lot of YouTube videos. Let's see if I can turn that activity into income.'
So I find the browser extension and install it. Then I go looking for a video to test the extension to see if it works properly. I Google “YouTube”. A generic search. Not expecting anything spectacular.
In the top search results, I see this familiar-looking building and … What? Wait! Are my eyes playing tricks on me? I know that building. It's …?? It's … ??? The building is in flames!
I look down at the headlines and see the words “Notre Dame Cathedral”. My first reaction was disbelief. But then I realized it was a CNN video and so I figured ''Oh my! This a real report!'
I'm thinking: Quasimodo! The Hunchback! Sanctuary! Sanctuary!!
The sanctuary is on fire??? NO WAY!!
Of course, even though I'm shocked, I stay focused. I didn't forget the task that I had set out to do. I was supposed to be testing the browser extension. So I try to multi-task. Watch the video AND test the browser extension.
So what happened? It wasn't the browser extension's fault. But that dang video wouldn't load! I couldn't hear a thing! I couldn't watch it! The screen just kept loading and loading and loading …
I had one of those Yosemite Sam/Bugs Bunny moments. You know? Where Bugs has gotten on Sam's last nerve and Yosemite Sam grumbles under his breath: “I hates rabbits”
I tried and tried and couldn't get that video to play. I mean right before my eyes I can see one of the most iconic pieces of architecture in the world ... in flames ... and the video won't play so I can hear the report!!!
I'm like.: “GGRRR … !!! UUUGGG!! I hate technology!!”
The Cathedral of Notre Dame is on fire?
That is something that I never expected to see in my lifetime.
* So! What were you doing yesterday?

Can you imagine it survived for centuries and WWII and this happens.

Yes. That thought also popped into my mind. That it survived so many centuries is the reason I never even thought about the place being destroyed. I figured the cathedral would attract visitors to Paris long after I had departed. But a fire during peacetime?

@JohnRoberts - Just as a followup. Since I didn't watch the YouTube video, I had to leave the house to go pick up my daughter from school. My other daughter decided to come with me for the ride. As soon as I got in the car I turned on the radio to listen to the news. My daughter can't stand listening to the news. Mainly because she doesn't really want to hear my commentary if the news is negative. So she went to reach to turn off the radio saying "Must you always want to listen to something negative?" She didn't realize that I was already frustrated because I couldn't get the video to play. I'm like: "The cathedral of Notre Dame is on fire! I GOTTA HEAR THE NEWS!! DON'T TURN OFF THAT RADIO!!" She's like: "OOOKAY Mom!"

@cmoneyspinner Thank goodness, I have visited Notre Dame several times in person and didn't wait until later in life to go to Paris.

Donations came in quickly and the amounts are huge. No surprise there.

Yeah. Very sad event. Unfortunately, this has happened to many other churches here in the U.S. and there hasn't been as much support to rebuild.

You mean "black churches". It has happened so often it's not "new news". No matter. The structures get rebuilt even without the infusion of huge amounts of corporate funds. History proves that.

@cmoneyspinner Yes. I mean "black churches". It's unfortunate that due to it happening so often lately that people have become desensitized to it happening.

It is getting donations now even from people who are not religious because the place is such an iconic building.
