What do you think about your landlord? Part 1

I'm watching a show on Netflix right now called "Nightmare Tenants, Slum Landlords." I think the title speaks for itself.
And I was just thinking about our landlord. I got told by the Real Estate that when our landlord first bought this house, he told them that he didn't want to have to come and keep fixing things.
Over time, we have realised just how much he meant that. And we wouldn't want him to come try to fix things anyway. We look after our house but being in this house for over 10 years, obviously things will eventually need some upgrading / fixing. I don't know what he does for a job exactly but it does involve fixing or building things. I think he may be a plumber. Not sure but when he has come here, whatever he has tried to fix, he actually makes worse. Here are some stories:
*One day our front door lock got stuck. Couldn't get in or out the door. Landlord came out to "fix it." I saw him taking things out of the door, and he managed to make the lock unstuck, but after he left I noticed the lock wouldn't lock.
For about 5-6 rent inspections, I kept telling the Real Estate about the door to which those notes go to our landlord but he didn't care about fixing it. That door is a security door. Not exactly secure when it won't lock! Eventually a professional came out and actually fixed it.
*Our bathroom tap was dripping. I told the Real Estate about it but our landlord made no effort to come quickly to fix it which was really unfair. Wasting water which then meant paying for that water. I would say 3-4 weeks went by before he came out. It stopped dripping! But within the next few days it began dripping again. So had to call him back to which he "fixed" again. But after a few days, I heard a very loud and constant high pitched sound. I thought it was the smoke alarm going mental until I saw the bathroom tap running. It wasn't pouring but it wasn't dripping either. The high pitch sound was coming from the tap. I rang the Real Estate straight away and then a professional came out and never had a problem since.
I will leave this part here and make a part 2 so this isn't too long.

@resukill22 oh cool! I guess that's easier to be a landlord of your own house.

10 years is a long time. I understand what you are saying about not contacting the landlord to repair everything and you know already he will not. I only contact my landlord when something big happens and he is getting on in years so has so much to deal with does not remember things. I do not contact him because so far I wanted us to be able to stay here and if I bothered him too much I felt we might not be able to. Now, I wish the place were better but it is not. I am so so sorry he does things worse than they way they were to begin with. I understand why you fix things yourself. I fix things myself or contact who I know will come and fix certain things because that way I can contact one person and know they will come. I have had people not show up because they do not know me. I think I might have a water problem but so far because of this virus I do not want anyone coming to fix things so leave it. Our smoke alarm kept going off and did not know it was that until someone told me and I have batteries to replace it and now it is quiet till it goes off again. Next time I will know what the noise is. Dani, I understand completely what you are saying, but, my landlord is a decent person compared to others. He has not always raised the rent and was decent about it.

@Hannihar I'm very sorry for the way you feel regarding your landlord (like not wanting to bother him) and just your home in general. You're just so sweet. I know you have a kind and honest heart.

@Hannihar I understand what you mean. Really is completely understandable.
I don't blame you for thinking that way.

I do not want to bother him because I want to have whoever I know to fix things and to not have to wait to see if someone I do not know whether they will show up or not.

@VivaLaDani13 I can see that. I don't know why people are like that. If he can't afford to have things fixed properly, he doesn't need to be in the business.

@simone10 Totally agree with you there! I don't see the point of him investing in this house or any other house if he intends to be cheap and uncaring like this.

@simone10 You hit the nail on the head there! he really is cheap and doesn't care about his tenant's well being.
