What's good about Good Friday?

Do you recognize Good Friday? Have you ever wondered how it could possibly be called good? We know this is known as the day Jesus was crucified. When I read in the Bible the different accounts of this event, it breaks my heart. Jesus was innocent, yet the political and religious leaders were determined to kill him. Of course, this was God's plan and was prophesied throughout the Old Testament. We can understand the excitement and joy when we celebrate Easter and the resurrection of our Lord and Savior. But how can this horrible, painful day be called Good Friday? I think maybe because if this day and all those events had not happened, we wouldn't have reason to rejoice three days later. So, in the sense that Easter showed the world God's plan of salvation through the resurrection of Jesus, Good Friday and the crucifixion had to happen first. Do you have a different opinion of why we call Good Friday good?

Because it's the end of the work week for most.

Most Fridays are good that way since it's the beginning of the weekend. But this is an "official" Good Friday before Easter.

There is actually quite a detailed explanation on the internet. Type in "Why is Good Friday Good"?

I'm curious if this was throughout the south or just in NC, but did you all ever celebrate Easter Monday with banks and stores being closed instead of on Good Friday like it is now?

I am not sure. Maybe because good was stronger.
