The Tear

I was perspiring profusely after the fourth Church of the traditional Visita Iglesia that my daughter had to propel me to an air-conditioned Archbishops' memorabilia restaurant, opened on Good Friday, for suffering faithful like me. It was never on our itinerary to stop for a meal. Always, we subsist on sweet fried camote or corn on the cob, and water.. This pilgrimage though, the scorching heat has gotten on me, and my daughter deemed it wise to rest rather than risk a heatstroke, I yielded, and found the garnished salmon with mashed potato comforting, Gave me strength to continue with the pilgrimage. Exhausted at home in the evening, my daughter and I watched The Passion. We have not viewed the movie since its initial release, solely because it was too much to bear. We did cringe at the prolonged flagellation, and our Lord spat upon and smacked many times. Physically, our Lord couldn't have finished Calvary, but there was His sorrow-filled Mother giving Him strength. The ending showed a Tear drop from heaven, our God cried at the death of His Beloved Son. Whilst we think faith is about pilgrimage and fasting, St. Augustine reminds us what we must remember.
"A single tear shed at the remembrance of the Passion of Jesus is worth more than a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, or a year of fasting on bread and water." ~St Augustine
