Scott Norris who is a conservation officer in Victoria British Columbia mentioned a story of a firefighter who used a ladder to climb a tree to rescue an 80 pound cougar who had been tranquilized by firefighters and conservation officers on Friday afternoon.
Normally the rule of thumb is when a cougar is away from his element and into areas that are not considered their territory, they are put to sleep for the safety of the people.
I will give the firefighter credit for bravery since he had the courage to carry the cougar who was asleep over his shoulder back to the ground.
Scott felt that since the cougar was a young animal, he is better off living the rest of his life in his domain away from the population.
Police dogs were able to chase the cougar up a tree after the cougar was seen at a beach in Esquimalt.

It beats putting a young cougar to sleep.

It's not a cat that I want to mess with. He is very courageous even if it was asleep.

I would rather mess with my cat Munster Cheese who does not like to be bothered than a cougar.

The cougar due to his youth was allowed to live in his territory.

You don't want to mess with an awake cougar.

No sir. Cougars, lions and panthers are off limits for me and anyone to mess with.

I am glad it was a happy ending for all. It makes me sad, when cougars attack people and have to be euthanized or are killed just because they are too close to the people who are no doubt encroaching on their territory.

It does bothers me that cougars have to put to sleep since they are considered dangerous being near humans.
