Why My Young Adult Life Was A Let Down

It is a bit of a shell shock going to a new place. A place you think the Marines are hard, but Marines have nothing on corporate world. Why? Why do it when you can stay here and we will take care of you? I hated it that is why. It is a lot like living in prison and when we deployed to Australia a local news report said we live like prisoners. Higher ups were mad, but many of us concurred. Yet, still no one takes care of you like Marines. Place to stay free food, get taught some things, housing and in modern times you get nice blankets a cabinet and just nicer furniture. You can thank my roommate for that. He installed a door bell. He added carpet and all Marine No No's, they try to keep us miserable to make us hard. He said screw that, and he worked in headquarters so knew all the brass. They liked it and next thing you know Marine Corps barracks getting a make over. Even Grunts, get to live in the barracks now and not in squad bay. Open Room where it is like prison. Funny, we on balcony one time and the grunts were trotting along, Marine terms, means long hike. 25 miles or so. They hiking past our barracks. Roommate that smashed Marine Corp code to bring us carpet and a door bell goes. Drinking one for you guys. F off pogue, meaning they fight the war and he sits behind the lines. I go damn, sure called you out, and me for that matter but I knew better to say that. Next thing you know, those guys were getting a bump up. No more squad bay, but a room of 3 and a shower by themselves. See, maybe a Trump supporter now, but at one time was a good guy. That was some neat stuff to see. Was an E 3 too, which is a crap rank, but higher ups liked his style and changes were made. Of course, what do you hear next. You all becoming soft. We never had this stuff when I was a Marine. That is where you want to tell Grand Pa to shut up. Happiness and losing it makes you fight harder. Having nothing to lose just makes you crazy. Marines are crazy but not as bad as they used to be. To think people say small things do not matter. Sometimes that is all we have. Corporate world does not even acknowledge this anymore and I can say I served in the toughest branch of them all and saw such a neat change that many will never see when they serve their four years. Marine Corps does not play and does not change much, so when you see it, better take note.
