These days, Kids have high academic burden as well as a pressure to devote time to extra curricular activities and other things. But at home, and with friends, the kids have influence of Internet or TV, behavior of their friends, and the words that they get to learn from their friends. Sometimes these could have a negative influence on the children. Yet, as parents we have to make sure that these things do not make the kids deviate from the pursuit of academics. And yes, Academics is not everything. So, we have to get our kids involved in sports, or other physical and social activities but keep a track on their growth and check that they do not develop bad habits or foul language while being with other kids. All of the above are easier said than done. Sometimes, we have to be nice, friendly and loving with our kids. At times, we need to be stern and a bit harsh. Some people desist from being harsh with their kids even when they hurt others or commit other mistakes. This is bad on the part of the parents and makes their kids follow the wrong path. So what is your experience in this regard? Any good or bad experience(s)?

My kids are all grown and one has kids of his own. I think they are doing a fine job raising them.

@DianneN that is great to know. Any idea as to how do they make their kid listen when he or she is totally in disagreement with them.

I am on that difficult path at present. Children never like preaching. I get angry at times on their behaviour if I give suggestions or advises to them on studies etc. Now they are too busy on watching IPL, which is loosing my patience.

@Sreekala Hmm I can understand. Sometimes TV, sometimes toys - at times kids do test our patience but we have to try to be calm and deal effectively! It is tough indeed!
