Did you know that today is a holiday called May Day? My question to you today is do you celebrate today as the begining of Spring or do you protest the day?
Let me explain. May Day orignally was set up to be a celebration of the beginning of Spring. It is celebrated with flowers, children playing and in the olden days, children played around the May Pole. It was just plain old fashioned fun.
In modern days of socialists and communists, the day has changed in several countries to be a day of protest for workers. This all started with an 1886 protest of workers in Chicago. The workers were protesting in support of an 8 hour work day. This led to a strike on May 3rd by McCormick Reaper plant workers.
This action led to the day of May 1st as being declared as an international holiday for labor as declared by the International Socialist Conference in 1889. Today, it is more commonly known as International Worker's Day.
I would rather celebrate the day with positive thoughts of Spring, flowers, clear and sunny days, children playing and beautiful weather. What is your take on May Day?
