The pub quiz organized by convention event runners Satellite 7 has become a perennial favourite event at the Eastercon science fiction conventions. Teams piled into the main Discovery hall to take part. Though the aim was to get teams of six, some had nearly twice that and others less than half the players. The team I was on had seven, and we did win the box of chocolates that was the main prize in a fun event. Our victory was largely due to Zoe Burgess Foreman, an expert on Japanese Anime, who single handedly answered all the questions in a round on the genre. I would attend a panel on Anime she was on later in the convention too. The last event I attended was another recurring event (now in its second year), the Rapid Fire Info-Shots open mic event, hosted by Tiffani Angus and Val Nolan. This is a chance to rant, or provide an education on any subject desired over three minutes. It was rarely taken seriously. My own contribution, about which High Street Bakeries leading SF luminaries visit is given as a separate feature here on Mylot. Attendees met puns with missiles in the form of marshmallows, and there was a judging panel too. Winners included a talk on why John Lennon’s Revolution 9 composition (regarded by many as the worst ever Beatles song) deserves more praise, and why Deep space Nine’s Captain Benjamin Sisko should rule the World and the correct way to fold and roll up electrical cable. Like the quiz it was a great show to be a part of. After drinks in the bar with friends I returned to my Hounslow Hostel at The White Bear pub about 12.30pm. Arthur Chappell

The piece on which High Street Bakeries leading SF luminaries visit is one of my favorites. I wish I had been at the Rapid Fire Info-Shots event because I would love to hear the discussion on Revolution 9.

Thanks for the update. I don't think #9 is the Beatles worst song.
