Writers depend on the royalties send by Publishers.

I have written around 10 text books in different subjects of Law. Recently my Book titled "Competition Law in India and interface with sectoral regulators" was published. Thomson Reuters was the publishing group. Writers depend on the royalties from sale of the books. It is not possible to find out how many copies of the books were sold. Publishers provide statements in a year and writers are supposed to believe them.

It is good to know that you have written so many books. It is bad if writers do not get paid well. Writing a book is a lot of effort.

Thanks Arunimaji actually India's Copyright Act allows 10% royalty on the selling price of the books. Problem is that publishers sell at discounts and concessions also. At that time the writer gets even less.

@arunima25 Thanks Arunimaji, writers have no other way but to believe the Publishers as to what cost they sold the books at. There is no system where it can be verified.

Yes writers do have to depend on the publishers. So have you so earned well from the books you have published?

That is great having published so many textbooks. At least you do keep getting royalties.
