Where did THAT saying come from?(out of nowhere)

This is somewhat inspired by a discussion I saw here earlier.
I was out and talking with someone yesterday. While he and I grew up in the same State, we grew up in different areas. He would have had less exposure to other cultures and perhaps from other regions of the US. His accent is slower, with more of the southern twang that people associate the south with.
I was raised in a more suburban and urban area. I found myself using sayings / colloquialisms with him that I had not used in awhile. Like "It ain't done it."
It Ain't Done it is basically an exclamation of disbelief and / or surprise.
I reckon came out a lot as well. I usually use I suppose more, but I reckon came out quite a lot yesterday. I almost laughed at myself because of how easy it was to slip back into this way of speaking. I could even tell that my accent became more hickish, and my speech slower.
I'm not saying this is a bad thing... I'm just not saying it's good either. I don't know what to make of it.

I used to speak a lot more "country speaking" like, but I guess over the years it's been shaped by the media I watch and the people I talk to.

@simone10 I don't think my sister has ever really had a southern accent. I mean, maybe a little bit of one, but never as bad as mine was at one point.

@ihasaquestion Oh I see. Yes, Slang and accents are different. I think you mean regional dialect more than slang though. Accents + the sayings people use?

It's funny that you should bring up the topic... hubby just mentioned last night that I used a phrase that is very "central Canadian" and that my dad used to say it all the time... Can't think what it was now lol!!

It is funny you should respond to this.... I was chatting with my great aunt who has family up in Canada (the daughter migrated there and raised a family) and we were commenting on how it seems common for Canadians to say "eh?"
Now don't take offense, it may not be as common as we think it is. She was just commenting on that and how our equivalent would be something like "Huh?" (that we say frequently)

I guess after living in the south for over 50 years that I do have a southern accent, but I grew up in the military, so I really didn't have a particular accent. Our son in law is a Yankee
so one day when my husband told him to bring something that was over yonder, he had no clue where yonder was. He says he still doesn't know!

That's funny!
I've always heard "I reckon", but years back I heard someone say 'I guess" and while that should be the most normal thing for someone to say, I was taken aback. I grew up with phrases like "Over Yonder" "Close the winder", "I reckon" and of course "It ain't done it!"

@1creekgirl Yes, same here. I was just surprised not hearing "I reckon".
Yes, yesterday I used the "It ain't done it!" line and the person I was with said "Well, of course I haven't, I gotta blow it up first."
(I had told him I was so full I could take a nap and he said he could blow up this (pointing to a big piece of plywood) which caused my 'It ain't done it!" remark.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Here I reckon means I guess. I haven't heard It ain't done it in so long! That gave me a chuckle.
