1886 - Pharmacist John Pemberton first sells a carbonated beverage named Coca-Cola as a patent medicine.
1940 - Ricky Nelson (Eric Hilliard Nelson) is born. He was an American Rock and Roll Star, musician and singer/songwriter. Starting in 1948 he was on the Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet with his family. In 1957 he became a teen idol and released "Be-Bop Baby". In 1958 "Poor Little Fool" and 1961 "Travelin' Man". He passed away in 1985.
1940 - Toni Tennille was born. She is an American singer, songwriter and keyboard player. She is half of the duo "Captain and Tennille". Their signature song was "Love Will Keep Us Together".

They still sell "coke syrup" as a medication. It's for upset stomach. I guess without the bubbles it works well, which makes me wonder what soft drinks would be like sans carbonation.
