A Rat on a Leash

Yes the picture is real! I got a leash and harness for my rats. I don’t have any intention of taking them on any walks though. Splinter, who is in the photo, likes to run around on my bed. The leash is to keep a hold on him but still let him roam. I don’t quite trust him to not try to take a flying leap to the night table or TV stand...and he’s a big boy so he could actually clear the distance.
The only problem so far is that he hasn’t realized he can walk around once the harness is on him! He just sits there wondering what to do.

Have you tried dangling some cheese or other treats in front of him? Making him walk with the harness on?
My bestie had a rat when we were in middle school.

I haven’t yet, he’s just worn it once. This is my big scaredy baby so I will try that.
