How do I get rid of these stains/dirt on my seam iron sole plate?

My steam iron works well, but the sole plate seems to have some stains and dirt. Wiping it gently does not get rid of them. How do I get rid of them without scratching or damaging the sole plate?

That is the question my hubby also needed an answer. I don't know how these stains come on the box?

I wonder too. It must be dirt accumulated from the clothes or the ironing board cover.

They may also be some burnt fibres or stuff stuck to clothes.

@cacay1 @pitstop, There is a possibility, when I do, I don't have any complaint with iron box, but hubby often complaints something burning and stains the cloths.

I think I’ve seen somwhere online that you could use toothpaste to remove it

Apparently, all you need is a paracetamol tablet (not the capsule or soluble kind but just the ordinary tablet) and a J-cloth or similar. Heat the iron to its hottest setting and (carefully) rub the tablet on the burnt areas, wiping off the debris periodically as you go. (see video below). Other methods use baking soda, toothpaste or salt - in other words, anything which is slightly abrasive but softer than the sole plate (wire wool or pan scourers are NOT recommended) and mostly recommend a warm iron (not hot).

@pitstop I'm glad it worked. I can't think why a paracetamol would be better than anything else but, hey! If it works, it works!

Surprise, but no surprise. The paracetamol thingy worked. The iron was hot, so I couldn't get the stain off completely. But most of it gone!! Thank you soooooo much.

I was looking for it online and one video showed using toothpaste. I am yet to try it. Someone suggested cleaning with vinegar but I am not sure.

I have some apple cider vinegar. Do you think this will help.

@arunima25 the paracetamol trick posted in this discussion worked! I'll try the vinegar to get rid of whatever little is left.

@pitstop That might work. Apple cider vinegar is expensive than regular ones.

it happened to me, but mine was much more dirtier, i puted newpapers on the floor, then a lot of salt on the newspapers, and turned the steam iron on, and started ironing the salt. the salt helped to remose a lot from it.

How can it rust? Have you ever touched it with water?

Nope. This is not rust. It looks more like dirt or stains.
