Remember that classic Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell song, "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing"? They've used it in commercials; and, of course, it's a staple on "oldies" stations (and for good reason!).
That song's title is the truth when it comes to some things in the health world.
Insurance companies insist on using the lowest-cost "generic equivalents" in prescription medications. And, for the most part, I really cannot tell the difference. Most of my prescriptions are generics. I suppose they've been on the market so long that the generic equivalent is the "norm." Even with the "over the counter" medicines, most things work just as well as the higher-priced "name brand."
There are exceptions, and I found that out yesterday.
I had a regularly-scheduled appointment with the allergist, and it just happened to coincide with this allergy flare-up I'm having. The nurse practitioner increased my doses of some of the prescriptions. She also gave me Mucinex.
NOT the generic, store brand. MUCINEX.
The $23-a-bottle stuff.
By last evening the goop in my sinuses was broken up.
Store-brand guaifenesin just doesn't cut it the way the brand name does in this case.
Glad I'm feeling better. Glad I had that doctor's appointment yesterday. Now, if I can only convince the VA I need real Mucinex instead of generic guaifenesin.....

I agree with some of those. I have noticed the difference.

I"m glad you are feeling better. No, sometimes the generic isn't the equivalent. One medicine for cataracts about killed my dad. The generic version is contraindicated for patients with a history of asthma. The problem is, once the generic was on the market there wan't enough interest in the original version, so it was discontinued. So my dad had to put up with asthma when he took his eye drops.

I remember this song. Glad you feel better and hope you can get the medication you prefer.

I remember the song very well for I only listen to KKOL the oldies radio station. I carry a portable transistor radio with me when I go out of my home. I hope you have success with your meds. I had to change my meds too, and I too get only generic. But mine works okay. Have you ever tried:

I typed in for my zip code, but what a difference it makes in prices. I see get coupon so you might want to ask if the store will accept coupon. Hope this helps. I know Mucinex is very expensive at the stores I window shop at. Good luck!
