1846 - The Donner Party departs Independence, Missouri for California
1928 - Burt Bacharach was born. He is an American singer/songwriter, pianist, producer and composer. He composed hundreds of songs between the late 50s and the 80s, many in collaboration with lyricist Hal David. Bacharach has won 6 Grammys and 3 Academy Awards. His songs have been recorded by more than 1,000 different artists. As of 2014 he has had 73 U. S. and 52 U. K. Top 40 hits.
Some of his well-known songs: This Guy's in Love With You (1968), Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head (1969), Close to You (1970), Arthur's Theme (1981) and That's What Friends are For (1986).
