Day 4 1 Timothy 4 1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them who believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: 5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. 6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. 7 But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. 8 For bodily exercise profits little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. 9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. 10 For therefore we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, specially of those who believe. 11 These things command and teach. 12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. 13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. 14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. 15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. 16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them who hear thee. There are so many religions, people don’t know what to believe. With those religions comes various doctrines and rituals taking people further from the gospel instead of closer to it. Paul gave Timothy express instructions about what to teach the people, and told him what would take place in the latter days. Today, we see the latter days taking place before our eyes. As Christians, you need to be aware of what the Bible teaches when it comes to doctrine so that when you hear what other religions teach, you have a basis on which to discern the truth of the doctrines and rituals taught. There is only one doctrine given by the Holy Spirit and that is found in the Scripture. 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. When you study God’s Word, you will know what to believe and what is false doctrine and rituals. 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. God will teach you when you study His Word. He will show you true doctrine, and you will be free to live your life according to the Word of God. You don’t need anything to enhance God’s Word. You only need God’s Word. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for Your Word that edifies my spirit and shows me the truth. Help me study Your Word so I will always know when someone tries to teach me false doctrine. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 15 May 2019 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay

Timothy 3:16 -17 is my favorite text. Some people say that the bible is old thus they dont need its guidance as we are in computer age, i read this text to them. Afterall, the bible was written for us to learn from the experiences of these biblical characters.

This particular scripture reminds me of our school national.pledge which we recite after our flag ceremony. I know where that pledge is patterned with. These lines say "in thought, in word and in deed." These are similar with "be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith..."
