What a lovely evening we had for the weekly tournament last night: perfect temperatures; and, as a friend said, I’m still suffering with the allergies so I can’t talk, making it quite the quiet evening!! (He should be fully recovered by our first state tournament. ) Here’s another song with a reference to mother in the title. #6: Mama Told Me (Not to Come) - Three Dog Night And yet another song everyone probably saw coming. A big hit for Three Dog Night, and Randy Newman’s first success as a songwriter, this song tells the story of a rather innocent young man at a party where there’s a little too much excitement (“I’m lookin’ at my girlfriend, she’s passed out on the floor”) for him. And, given that Randy Newman wrote this, you can’t really tell if he’s serious....or the one passing around the strange cigarettes!
