Ever shared a post on Facebook that turned out to be just a Rumor?

I am guilty of sharing a link to a post on Facebook that later I took time to look at and after fact checking it, like a follower told me to do, I found out that the shared article on my Facebook Wall was just a rumor that had been going around. The rumor was that a soft drink company did a can logo that included only part of the pledge of allegiance. In the article, the original one, posted many years ago, the words UNDER GOD were omitted. In that article a statement was made by whoever posted it originally, that they would not buy anything from that soft drink company because they left out UNDER GOD in it's can logo. I lost a follower on Facebook who I had for many years. They told me I NEEDED TO FACT CHECK what I share before spreading HATE, in their words. I was taken back by the negative emotion I was having and before I could delete that post, It was already too late. They blocked me. Just in case you might run into some kind of rumor that sounds really bad, don't do what I did, by sharing your emotional responses to something that is not even true, but take time to do a little fact checking on it first so you will not end up losing a friend or a follower on social media. I am willing to admit I made a mistake by sharing the article on my Facebook wall with my followers and friends on Facebook but I am guilty of making a mistake. There is a lot of fake news floating around on social media. Take my advice and don't be impulsive. Don't just share a post because you think it is the truth, if you agree or disagree with the article that has been posted. And also, do not be hasty in judging others. We are all only human and in this age of modern technology and instant news feeds and instant text messaging, it is all too easy to make that same kind of rush to conclusions without first checking your sources. Sometimes it's best to pause and reflect before reacting to news you get in an instant in time through social networking.

Thanks, @Sojourn. I am trying harder to make sure that I do not post things so impulsively as I have done in the past and to personally make sure my facts are legit and I have enough information. Facebook is a place that seems to have a lot of interactions and article sharing.

That is why I am not quick to share anything there . . . there's a lot of misinformation floating around online. I do have friends who have shared such posts - but there's always someone who will be quick to point out that it's false.

This happened to me once. Yes we should be careful of a lot of fake news on social media. Some just posts for attention.

I don't blame you, I have done it too. Nonetheless I think that's how social media mostly works theses days, most info we find on it is based on rumors, in the end there's no an absolute truth.

I saw one last night that said a worker confessed to putting his HIV infected blood into Pepsi products I fact checked it and found out it has been around for years. I have shared some hoax posts before, mostly regarding Amber alerts that never happened, and prayers for injured children who don't exist. After that, I don't share unless I know it is true or I check it out first.
