The Domestic Geek gives yet another simple and delicious YouTube video! This time, she teaches 3 different methods of creating sloppy joes. 1. Classic 2. Cheeseburger 3. Philly Cheesesteak All of the basics are ground beef, ketchup, mustard, steak sauce, onions, bell peppers and seasonings. These basics are what the classic calls for. The next 2 build upon the basics. The cheeseburger version calls for cut up pickles and shredded cheddar cheese. The philly cheesesteak calls for mushrooms and provolone cheese. I know I am surely going to prepare these soon! No more boring sloppy joe mix out of a can! What was to my surprise? She used ketchup. I have only heard of out of the can sloppy joe mix or pasta sauce. I like all 3! The classic for when there is no grocery money. The cheeseburger for a picnic. The philly cheesesteak for when guests are over (well, I never have guests... but just in case you do...) I give these recipes a 10! (on a scale of 5!) photo by pixabay

You wanna try eating that concoction with your hands tied behind your back ... in the BATH! The minced meat mixes sound quite tasty (though she's a bit heavy handed with the various condiments, in my opinion. I mean, beef is beef and she's using a fairly low fat beef, so it's likely to be quite good quality steak ground up. Where's the sense in slathering it with ketchup and mustard to hide the flavour of the beef? I always fry my minced beef until it's actually beginning to go brown at the edges (quite a lot longer than she seems to do). That way, you get the umami effect which happens when meat meets Maillard (look up 'Maillard reaction' if you don't know what I'm talking about). Lastly, why serve the stuff in a burger bun (one of the worst, most synthetic of bread creations ever invented)? Load it onto baked potatoes, split a crunchy baguette down the middle and fill the cavity with it, fill tacos with it or stuff it in a pitta bread or a pakora but, for heaven's sake, throw away those ghastly, pasty abominations called 'burger buns' (and the 'hot dog buns' too, while your'e about it.

I remember having Soppy Joes when I was a kid in the US, but over here you can't find anything like them, so it will interesting to see if I can make one like I remember
