After yesterday’s rather long title, I present a very short song title for today’s look back at 1979. Unlike many of the other songs on this list, this one isn’t played to death on classic rock stations. However, this may be the only song you know from this guy.
#11: Gold - John Stewart
But wait, there’s more!
John Stewart wrote the Monkees’ hit “Daydream Believer” and Rosanne Cash’s hit “Runaway Train,” among many others. He was also a member (although not an original member) of the Kingston Trio.
As for this song, the sad reality is that if Stevie Nicks hadn’t been singing backup this may have never been a hit. (See also Kenny Loggins’ “Whenever I Call You Friend.”) I hate to think that, true though it may be.
According to Picky Wedia, Stewart called this song “empty” and “vapid,” and quit performing it. If he thought that way about the song, he was just reiterating the underlying sarcasm of the chorus of “People out there turnin’ music into gold.”
John Stewart died of a stroke in 2008, leaving behind a lot of songs, with this one being the best-remembered from his own recording career.

Never heard this one before. I know I always enjoyed Heart of Gold by Neil Young.
