Another AI Advancement

MyLot Exclusive #189 A lot of people are still uneasy about our turning just about everything over to AI (Artificial Intelligence) and I can understand that concern a little bit. To the extent that we don't want huge corporations under our present system of government to have untold amounts of additional power. But I firmly believe that we will repair our defective politics (Impeach 45!) before it becomes too big of an issue (Feel The Bern! Go AOC!). But let's forget all that for now and take a look at one of the most recent AI advances, cancer prediction (Link At The Bottom). Google has tested its' lung cancer predicting AI against six board-certified radiologists in examining 45,856 chest CT screens and the AI found 5% more cancer cases than the radiologists. And it produced 11% fewer false positive results. Five percent doesn't sound like much and it's really not. Unless you have lung cancer and would rather have it found very early when it's easy to treat and the survivability rate is magnitudes higher. In that case, five percent is a huge number. And it's just the beginning. Someday soon, it will be right 90% and then 100% of the time. But it doesn't stop with cancer screening. Someday, all medical care will be done by AI and it will do it far better than people can. Even very good doctors make mistakes, machines don't (OK, I can hear a million of you screaming things like, "My computer crashed fives just today! What do you mean machines don't make mistakes???----And sorry, but your computer doesn't have AI and unless you're at work, it's probably not maintained by professionals and if you are at work, it's not maintained by AI and pro's who know that the machines are involved in life and death work). I wish the whole thing were moving faster but AI does seem to be going at a pretty good pace. Google trained its AI to predict lung cancer
Google says its AI-based lung cancer screening tool can predict cancer and reduce false positives.

That's interesting. I'm glad they're making headway in cancer research. Imagine having an AI as president.

I am ready for an AI President. And Congress.

@FayeHazel Do you have a projected finish date for that story yet? I'm not being impatient or trying to pressure you, it's just that at my age, you know, I probably only have a couple of days left.

AI defintely has it's role, but the AI customer service bots, sure have a long way to go!

That, I agree with. But people can't do customer service anymore, either. I think we're just going to have to reprogram all the customer service bots.

@arthurchappell Over the last few years, I have started to see life that way. Mostly. Before, I couldn't wait for it to end because I didn't see anything really good coming, at least not in my projected lifespan. But now, we are about to have Quantum computers and a lot of other truly exciting, hopeful things, so now I'm half on the Life Is OK Bandwagon.

You're right. 5% doesn't sound like much, but in reality it is huge! I think it's great AI are getting better at screenings and I think - as long as they are supervised by humans it's a grand idea. That said we wouldn't want AI's building AI's never know what might happen

For the people who have lung cancer, it is huge. And soon, it's going to be other kinds of cancer and then, shortly, a ton of other medical conditions. Well, the machines that the machines build are going to be fine as long as the people who built the first machines didn't make any mistakes. And have people ever made a big, costly, tragic mistake? Ever? I say there's nothing to worry about.

@FayeHazel And it'll ease the fear of AI after a few million people have been saved by it. Soon, people are going to be saying things like, "I'm a little scared of my self-driving car and my autonomous vacuum but the same technology saved grandma's life so I'm giving them a chance." How did you find the one movie I haven't seen yet? Put it on one of the Movie Night lists.

@xander6464 I think it's brilliant, and the less false positives is huge too. Have you ever seen "Futureworld" talk about machines overseeing machines

Amazing technology. There are many dogs that can also detect cancer in humans.

Dogs are amazing. If they're trained right, they can find cancer just as well as our tests and sometimes better and it's much less stressful for the patient.

@CarolDM I've even seen stories where people said something like, "My dog started growling at my stomach and wouldn't stop. Finally, I got suspicious and went to the doctor and found out I have stomach cancer."

I read the headline on Bing this morning. AI can make mistakes too. Nothing is perfect. But it is nice to get a early warning though.

Yeah, it's not perfect yet but it's already better than people and it's getting better every day.
