I just bought a 1996 jeep cherokee limited.....mirrors

I adjusted the outside mirrors (they were facing the ground)and when I got back in after turning it off and starting again they were facing the ground again,so I adjusted them again, turned it off, came back and low and behold they were facing the ground.There is no owners manual with it so I am wondering do I need to set them?
