Do you think the Farmer's Almanac has any basis in fact? I think since the science of long range weather prediction is pretty bad overall, it is a tool, that seems to be about as accurate as any long range scientific forecasters in other words a guessing game, one that has some validity. FA is based on natural signs like how wooly the caterpillars are, which way the plants are leaning, and things of that nature to predict the weather. If, and if it is correct, a big IF, it says the East(Mid Atlantic to Richmond) will be cool and rainy, this summer like what we had last year..and August is going to be much warmer than usual. The long range weather people say the overall summer will be hotter than average on both coasts, and below average cool in the Midwest. I guess it remains to be seen which forecast is closest.

My grandparent's were farmers..I think they had it around..but they weren't strict adherrents to it. They were modern in their approach and thinking.

@marlina Yes, and more of a faith in technology, than the "old ways."

Absolutely, I think it is one of the only periodicals that has remained in print since it's inception in the 1700's.

I never look at it to be honest Snowy. I imagine it must be helpful though?

I tend to believe the European Models in the winter. I put a little more stock in the farmer's almanac than I do anything else, but even that isn't as accurate as it might have once been.

The one thing about the Famer's Almanac is almost every winter it says it is going to be cold and snowy..and sometimes they are right, and sometimes not. They don't seem to take things like El Nino..and La Nina into consideration.

@snowy22315 You are right about that, it seems like the last few years they have predicted either a lot of snow or a lot of rain. I think they got it right a few years ago but last year wasn't nearly as bad (for us) as they had predicted it to be.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes, it is a tool, not to be taken too seriously I think.
