Cardinal on Deck

This year I have more birds in my backyard than usual. Not sure why, unless it is because I fed them through the winter. I have read that if you do that, they will return in the spring to raise their families. Apparently that is what has happened. I have birds and babies all over the front and backyard. Many have fledged now but there is still one robin nest in the backyard. And not sure what else is hiding in the trees. The cardinals have been good at hiding their nests. I see the male and female but cannot find the nests. That is ok, it is well protected. This photo is a female I snapped on my deck. The male has the bright red color. The female is usually a duller color. Do you have birds in your backyard? Or may you don't care about birds? ©CarolDM

I love birds. We have a couple of owls that come around at night every so often and hoot. So cool!

I have a few. But they keep a safe distance from the barn cats for nesting.

@CarolDM I dont either. And I need the cats for the rodents that try to invade. So I enjoy the birds as they fly by or get drinks of water.

She is pretty isn't she. I think she has a nest of babies in my yard but I can't find them.

Oh, and if I'm afraid of a bird, I like to watch your photos. They always look unrealistically nice.

Birds usually will not hurt you unless they feel provoked. If you move slow around them, no quick moves, you should be fine. And usually they fly away if you come close to them.

@LowRiderX Yes the ones that eat insects have a hard time. They do eat berries but I also feed them seeds.

@CarolDM You are welcome. Well, yes, I feel sorry, over the winter time it's very hard for them to find food

Yes that happens with all of us. You have to keep your distance. Watch them form a window perhaps.

That is a great shot, cardinals are my favorite bird to watch. We don't have many birds around because there is a lot of construction going on in our neighbourhood.

Thanks, it is hard to catch a photo of the cardinals. They fly away quickly. We also have construction.

Cute little bird. Feeding the birds in winter and seeing them coming back in Spring -/is a new insight for me.

Yes, this attracts them to your yard. It feels familiar to them and they know there is food and water here.
