The Old Dairy Barn

I posted a photo of the old barn on the property behind us that was originally one big homestead in the 1800's and early 1900's. I know our home was built in 1860 so the barns I am guessing. followed either soon after or several years later.
The family that lived here was a well-to-do family at that time in history. The man had a college education in agriculture and used that knowledge to farm the land here and he also raised cows. There were two or three sons.
The lady of the house was known to work with the Cooperative Extension Service as a volunteer and would donate her time and home to host meetings with other women in the area. She would teach them to cook, to can, grow vegetables and herbs, make butter, jelly, etc.
The family also had an old general store out by the main road here where they sold their crops and "extras." The store was small and torn down before we bought the property. I wish they had left it standing.
I have enjoyed listening to stories about this family from residents who remember this family or that she was a friend of their mother or grandmother.
I wanted to get this posted because I promised @Torrun that I would post a picture of the old dairy barn. I apologize that the photo isn't clearer, but there is an overgrowth and that was the best shot from the property line.

I always enjoy these stories about the histories of various buildings. I"ve only been in Paso Robles for about 25 years, and I've been taking photos of the downtown and surrounding areas almost that long. It's amazing how many businesses move in and out over the years and what current building used to be. I consider myself a sort of town historian now, though that's only in my own head. I safe all these photos and occasionally post comparisons. Thank you for posting this.

@bagarad I have no idea about the barn, but my home had a secret hideaway for the Underground Railroad cause according to the story I got from the previous owner. She showed me where this was in the house. As the years went by the area was closed up, but was an ideal space to hide a couple of people if need be until they could get out of the area.

The photo and story is a nice plot for a movie or a play.

You think so? I have had fun putting together the history of this place and family. I found old letters in the attic that was quite interesting also. I had all the info sorted into chronological order but the nephews visited and when through them and left a mess. Needless to say, I was ticked off.

@kareng Yes, the story/ history of the place sounds cool. Add a few twists here and there; I think it should be great.
