Say What???

Yesterday as I was coming out of a store and walking into the parking lot an older man and boy were just getting out of their truck. We crossed paths and the older man said good afternoon to me. This was followed up with this line, "You better watch out around here. There are a lot of women drivers out there." I shook my head in disbelief and just got in my car. He proceeded into the store with the boy tagging along. So, of course, this had me thinking. Why did he tell me this? After all, I am a woman. Did he think I was not included in the crazy drivers which he referred to as ALL women? I'm beginning to get a complex with these interactions with people when I am out running errands. Not long ago a retired veteran asked me to go get coffee with him. Umm, no you are a stranger. Anyway, I just shucked this off as crazy. Please share if you make some kind of sense out of it that I'm missing. Photo: Wikimedia Commons

That IS crazy and odd. I ignore oddballs like those when out and about by myself. My husband buys vets breakfast when he sees them begging in the morning.

@DianneN It is. Others will end their "shift" and go get in a sports car and drive off.

You fid the right thing- never entertain them. Some years ago, someone asked for money because he had none. He was a young man, and it was evening. I never even looked at him. I was affraid of hypnotism

Oh, I never entertain them. Being a wife of a law enforcement official, believe me, I've heard all kinds of stories.

That's for sure. And ignoring most of these people is the best thing to do.

Maybe he said it with a good intent but hurt you in the process with his choice of words.

Oh, he didn't hurt me. If nothing else I found it funny.

I can't find any sense... but yes I would have taken an offense if someone would have said that women drivers are crazy. Though I myself believe that partially but saying that to a woman is a so bad idea.

I am thinking it was a guy thing and maybe an inside joke with the kid. Who knows.

I wonder if the retired vet was asking, in a round about way, for money for a coffee. Could that have been possible?

I don't think so. I observed him also in Walmart doing the same thing. I got what I needed and got out of there. I think he is lonely, but going about it in the wrong way.
