Learning to cook traditional food because you are married....

So, the day started kind of fine, but then something really pushed my trigger, my cook said while she was cooking lunch in the kitchen, "you must know how to cook traditional food now since you are married to this family"; my immediate reaction to that was, "What? Why? that's not happening." I married the guy of my choice which belongs to different community, and culturally we vary, but being married doesn't mean I should learn cooking traditional food. I would love to learn, I love to cook, but putting it this way that since I am married I should do this is a big NO. I can do lot of things out of love but not marriage....

hahaha just relax dear. There is nothing wrong to learn new things. It is good to learn the things in a home where you want to live your life. If you learn those it will improve your dignity in that home. I do agree that lady does not have any right to speak to you that way. But just treat it as her ignorance or lack of culture.

There is no issue in learning but making it sound that way ... I can't take it...

I know how to cook... And I don't mind learning as well... What I have a problem with is the point that since you are married in this community learn cooking traditional dishes... I can't take this.... Since I am married... Learning is fun...

Rhe cook should have put it differently by avoiding the use of "should". That's my thought.

One reason why many resent their mother-in-law. They use the word "Should" too often. Would it have made a difference if it were your in-laws and not a cook who hinted that you learn to cook their traditional food?

I don't like her already. It would have ruined my day.
