19 Songs From 1979: I Got You (#4)

What were you doing 40 years ago? I was 19, joining the Navy, and listening to music. To celebrate, I’m counting down 19 songs from the year I was 19. This one didn’t stuck in the classic rock rotation, which is sad, because it’s a great song. #4: I Got You - Split Enz Ooh. Just ooh. Neil Finn is now one of the touring guitarists for Fleetwood Mac (along with Mike Campbell...yes, it takes two guitarists to replace Lindsey Buckingham!). Before that, though, he was a co-founder of Crowded House...and of this band. Split Enz put New Zealand on the new wave music map, thanks in part to this great tune. Then Split Enz morphed into Crowded House, and the map became much brighter. I absolutely love this song about the fear of a relationship (with the chorus beginning, “I don’t know why sometimes I get frightened”). It was a great way to close out 1979 and usher in 1980!! 40 years ago? um..i was in 6th grade.got braces that year too.it SUCKED.
