I remember when I was a kid. Our family was poor. We couldn't afford to buy a commercial coffee. My late mother made a coffee tea from rice. She roasted it. When done, she pounded it then it's ready to be used as coffee tea. With a cup of a teaspoon or two, putting a sugar to taste, "SarĂ¢-sarĂ¢" is now ready to serve.
My mother told me that it has something good for the body. She didn't elaborate it.I didn't mind it not until today.
I have found out from Kellyk's "What Are the Health Benefits of Brown Rice Tea?" that this rice tea is known as "genmaicha" in Japanese. It contains flavonoids, antioxidants, trace minerals and vitamins.
It is similar to green tea for it has a common essential nutrients or antioxidants known as polyphenols, as studied by Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
I do appreciate and very grateful for my late mother who prepared a rice coffee tea for us, which has an essential benefits for our health.

Our mothers and grandmothers had more wisdom. All things prepared within budget were good and healthy. Now we spend so much money on commercial things which have no health benefits. And now we all are realizing the old wisdom and going back to our roots.

It is always nice to have a substitute for something that ends up being healthy.
