Day 3
Hebrews 3
Hebrews 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him who appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath built the house hath more honor than the house.
4 For every house is built by some man; but he who built all things is God.
5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost said, Today if ye will hear his voice,
8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do always err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
11 So I swore in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end;
15 While it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? Was it not with them who had sinned, whose carcasses fell in the wilderness?
18 And to whom swore he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them who believed not?
19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
Are you faithful to the vocation you chose? Are you faithful to your family, your job, your friends? Are you faithful to yourself?
The writer to the Hebrews told them they were to be faithful to their calling as Christians called by Christ Jesus. He reminded them they were not to act as they did when their forefathers were in the wilderness and disobedient and hard-hearted to God and many died due to their disobedience. But rather they were to show themselves faithful to God and faithful to the calling He gave them just as Moses was faithful and Jesus was faithful to God His Father.
As Christians, you are called by Jesus Christ to be faithful. What has God called you to do? Is it to work in your job as a faithful employee showing God’s grace to everyone you encounter? Is it to minister to the homeless and destitute with the grace of God? Is it to be the best parent you can be for your children so they will know the love of God and accept Him as their Savior and Lord?
You are all called to be faithful in whatever calling God has for you. When you do, you show the love and grace of Jesus Christ. You show His faithfulness in everything He did while on earth, and His faithfulness now as He intercedes for you at the right hand of the Father.
When you doubt you harden your heart and the love of Jesus cannot work in you. The writer of Hebrews warned you not to be like those who hardened their hearts when Israel was in the wilderness. They turned from God and died there. However, you are to remain faithful with tender hearts able to allow the Holy Spirit to work in you to do His will in your lives, so people will know the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Let God’s love work in you and you will always be faithful to His calling on your life.
Let’s pray: Father, help me be faithful to You and the calling You gave me. Help me show Your love to everyone I encounter. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
