I know Memorial Day’s over and it’s not Veterans Day until November but my respect for those who fight for our freedom is a daily thing not a handful of days in this year. The cost of freedom is dear even if the person does not die they are forever changed! Standing Proud He will proudly stand up And salute his flag. He no longer runs Dunking fire Dodging bullets from Enemy fire. Seventy years have passed Since he help liberate Aushwitz Birkenau Liberating men, women, and rarely children. He had heard whispers of other places So bad the Nazi's destroyed them Sobidor 1, Treblinka And he knew as he saw those Living skeletons stumble out of that hell Why he was there. He looks to the flag With reference, To many of his buddies Had come home In flag draped coffins. He struggled now Simply to stand But He stands tall Saluting the hero's who died Every memorial day He remembers his buddies Shot down by the Nazi's. But He remembers too The bodies piled In the walls of that Nazi help. And he still marvels at those who Walked out of there. (C) Michelle Renee Kidwell May.27.2017
