Day 4 Hebrews 4 Hebrews 4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them who heard it. 3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For he spoke in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 6 Seeing therefore it remains that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: 7 Again, he limits a certain day, saying in David, Today, after so long a time; as it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remains therefore a rest to the people of God. 10 For he who is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature who is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. 14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, who is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. People take a break from their work at the end of the workday and weekends. People take vacations to rest from their work so they can focus more when they return. The writer told the Hebrew people it was no different for them. They needed to rest from their labors. God rested, and they were to rest. As Christians, you have the same options to rest from your work so you can do a better job for the kingdom of God. There is also the rest of death when we enter the kingdom of God. You finished your labor and it’s time to enter eternity to be with Jesus. Yet, not everyone qualifies for the kingdom of God. Only those who accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord. The writer told the Hebrews and you that if those who heard the gospel and didn’t believe didn’t enter into God’s rest, neither would anyone else who doesn’t accept the gospel of Jesus Christ and the work of the cross. When Jesus died on the cross, He became your High Priest. He suffered every problem known to man in His day so you could relate to Him and accept Him for who He is, your God, your Savior, your High Priest, someone who knows everything you’re going through because He did too. You see the power of God’s Word. It’s mighty, piercing soul and spirit, joint and marrow. Sharper than a two-edged sword. God’s Word pierces the darkness of your heart and lets the light of His Word enter and free you from the shackles of sin so you can live a life holy and righteous to God. Let God’s Word free you today and show you the Light of His salvation, Jesus Christ. Walk in the Light and you will not walk in darkness. Then when you finish your work, you will enter into His rest and see Him face to face. It will be a glorious day. Let’s pray: Father, let me do Your work so that when I finish my work, I enter into the rest You prepared for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Thank you so much for this scripture. I have learned that there's no rest in unbelief. God's words are powerful.
