Day 5 Hebrews 5 Hebrews 5:1 For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins: 2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them who are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. 3 And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins. 4 And no man takes this honor unto himself, but he who is called of God, as was Aaron. 5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made a high priest; but he who said unto him, Thou art my Son, today have I begotten thee. 6 As he said also in another place, Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. 7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him who was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; 8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them who obey him; 10 Called of God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek. 11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. 12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13 For every one who uses milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14 But strong meat belongs to them who are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Have you attended leadership ceremonies for people advancing in their service to the people? The writer to the Hebrews reminded them about the office of high priest in relationship to Jesus’ position as High Priest and how His position not only took their sins from them but gave them eternal life. As Christians, Jesus is your High Priest. You can go to Him for anything and He will hear you. However, some of you need to be told often as a baby unable to eat meat. You grasp the milk of the Word without studying it further to know what is yours as a believer in Jesus Christ. You rely on someone else to tell you what God says in His Word instead of reading it for yourself and gleaning the fruit of the Word. A high priest in the Old Testament offered gifts and offerings to God for their cleansing from sin. Jesus as your High Priest offered His blood as His gift to God for your salvation. There is no better gift He could give than His life. Yet, you want more. There isn’t anything more. Jesus paid it all and sealed your salvation with His resurrection, and as High Priest sits at the Father’s side interceding for you when you come to Him with your prayers and petitions. When you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, you committed to learning all you could as a believer in Jesus Christ and God your Father. You have help in learning through the Holy Spirit. A priest can only do so much. The rest is up to you. As High Priest, Jesus gave everything He has for you, but the rest is up to you. You need to read, study, and grow in the life of a Christian so you can eat the meat of the Word and not only take in the milk. Let’s pray: Father, help me grow in my life in You so I am eating the meat of Your Word and not only taking in the milk. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
