I was watching a channel known as The Green Planet in out TV yesterday and I watched something so amazing. In my country, Kenya, there is a reserve that has many wild animals and one of those are the lions. They are known as the most feared wild animals because of their bravery and ability to feed on other animals and humans. So there is this tribe of people known as the Maasais living near the reserve. They are mostly known for their cattle keeping and pastoralism. They are mostly affected by the lions as they feed on their cattle when they are herding in the reserve. Hence, they have a lion guardians program. What amazes me is that this group not only takes care of their cattle so that they are not eaten by the lions but they also protect the lions from poachers. This is such an incredible two way program that has helped to keep the lions from extinction due to the poachers. The lion guardians are well trained Maasai warriors who are very brave, brave enough to face the lions. They know all the lions available in the reserve and each of the warriors is assigned a group of lions to look after. They always know the whereabouts of this lions through the use of binoculars. This way, they know where to herd their cattle away from the lions at the same time, they can spot the poachers who are hunting the lions and stop them before they kill the lions. Each of the worrior has even named the lions that he takes care of. One of them expressed how happy he was when one of his lions gave birth to three cubs. Isn't this an amazing program?
