Oh, is it controversy time! For today’s song that references radio I’ve picked someone — and a song — that can make people regurgitate. My doctor can’t stand this song (her first name is Angela). And, WHAT’S UP WITH PUTTING IT AHEAD OF A TOM PETTY SONG????? Here we go. #3: Angie Baby - Helen Reddy What can I say. This song is an episode of The Twilight Zone. You gotta love it for that reason alone. In fact, I’m rather surprised (and JJ will correct me if I’m wrong) that some “goth” or “metal” band hasn’t covered this. For a song that was by an “easy listening” icon of the 70s (this was #1 on the pop and easy listening charts), this is lyrically a spooky song. I related to it because I kept a radio near me at all times, but the supernatural notion of a girl who’s “a little touched” who ends up using her radio to kidnap a boy is just...wild. Oh, and here’s another little shock for you: it was written by “Undercover Angel” one-hit wonder singer Alan O’Day. So sue me. This is a gem from the days when a song could do more in three minutes than a movie could in three hours.
