Tim Hitzler who is a teacher at the Alternative Learning Center in Dubuque Iowa has this method of assisting his community as well as giving his students some extra credit for the physical education students.
The extra credit program is optional for the students to do yardwork of senior citizens who due to their advanced age and physical problems of doing work like cutting the grass, raking leaves among other duties.
One thing is for certain, even though a lot of people do not like to do yardwork since it is hard on the body physically due to the weather conditions, the students learn a skill In the manual labor field as well as keep their community looking nice when the work is done.

That's a good program for the students to learn. We have several livelohood skills for our out-of-youth who are also students of Alternative Learning System of the Department of Education.

Having these programs is useful for students to learn life skills at a young age.
