What exactly is Blueray?

Is it the next Big thing? Is it like when I FINALLY went out and bought a cassette player, and they came out with CD's? LOL!

A Blu-ray Disc is a high-density optical disc format for the storage of digital media, including high-definition video.The name Blu-ray is derived from the blue-violet laser used to read and write this type of disc. Because of this shorter wavelength (405 nm), substantially more data can be stored on a Blu-ray Disc than on the common DVD format

hey blueray is a technology on which about 25 gb of data could be stored on a single layer blueray disc and 50 gb on double layer and they are really expensive

I've heard of it but I don't know exactly what it is. I would assume it's a portable DVD player or somehting like that.
