You Never Sang Or Smiled...Grandad I Still Love You Anyway....

You never told me stories You never sang to me We hardly ever exchanged a word I cannot ever remmeber seeing you smile Why oh why could´nt you ever be happy? I always tried to make you smile Seems like it was never to be The few times I ever saw you I wanted so much to run and hug you Only to hear a sharp reprimand Don´t wake him up or else Fastforwarding much time later I realized that you worked so hard every day You just had no time for work or for play. Words are all my own and Manolo Escobar this is about my Grandad a Coal Miner who worked so hard under ground all of his life he had no time to play or even smile with us. He would sit in the chair and fall asleep from sheer exhaustion. I know its Father´s Day other places but how much would I like there to be a Grandads Day so they can also have their say.

It's wonderful that you are so understanding of his work and his life.

@lovinangelsinstead21 yes, I can see how that would be difficult for a child.

Oh that's a lovely poem with the facts. My grandparents didn't love me much...

They never showed me outwardly any such love either but I still loved them just the same but it was frustrating to know why they could be like that. I think that maybe the War had a bit of something to do with it also maybe. I am sorry that they did not love you either. Anyone with Grandparents that loves them is so lucky so very lucky. He was always falling asleep as the work was just too much for him at that age and I understood it much later on.

@ShifaLk No, not at all it was not very often I saw them as we had to walk a long way there and back each time. For me there will be no difference between one Son´s children and the others.

I’m glad you came to the realization why he didn’t reciprocate your outward gestures, but I’m sure he loved you deep in his heart.

He probably did but never ever showed that towards any of us there was a lot of favourite inclination towards his second son and their child. I was not jealous could not be bothered about all that.

@nela13 I think that an adopt a Grandad would be a great idea for some as I did not know my other Grandad either and this one was always asleep whenever I went there so it was more or less the same thing.

@nela13 You are so lucky after the war here they suffered a lot of disconnection between families and the spanish civil war caused the same problems also.

The lives those coal miners lived was a very hard one. Poor guy being so exhausted he wasn't able to spend time with his family.

It was indeed a very hard life and not many miners got through it all and lived to tell the story. I did not really understand why at the time being so small but now I do and its a tribute to all those forgotten men.

Thank you so much there is not such a day here at all I don´t know about England but here they make a lot of noise about Grandparents outwardly but the reall truth is the opposite. Again thank you for the link. They make much more of a fuss about Father and Mother´s Day I think the same should be for Grandparents too just saying.
