Cancer, a bitter pill to swallow!

June 16, 2019 12:36pm CST
Cancer is a bitter pill for anyone to swallow! My mother was diagnosed in February of this year wit Breast Cancer, needless to say it has rocked our family to the core. Sure we all hear and know about Breast Cancer, but we never really think it will happen to us or someone we love. Let me tell you. I live in Indiana and my Mother was living in New York, so when she was diagnosed, the only support i could give her was over the phone. I could listen and be supportive because i called her deveral times a day to make sure she was ok and ask how her day went. I suddenly started to notice changes in my mothers mental status, her speach was off, she had trouble typing words in text messages. There wee a few time that my mother would call me up and be crying and confused because she couldn't remember my brother's name or the date or even where she was. Knew I had read an article once on a temporary condition called Chemo Brain, where the Chemotherapy Medacines can cause confusion and and cause forgetfulness, so became even more concerned for my mother's safety I had to do something and fast. I mmediately started talking with my mother about moving to indiana with with Myself and my 7 Kids, yes I said 7. I have 6 Sons and one daughter ages ranging from 21 on down to 11. So my life was already hectic, but this is my mom. The woman who gave me life, the woman cared for me when iwas growing up, how could i not be there for here when she needed someone to care for her. My She-Room is now Nana's room :) My mother moved in with us May 3rd, since then i have gone with her to her doctor's appointments and during her Chemo Treatments. Okay, I'm a very strong woman,i have to be to be the newly divorced mother of seven kids. Nothing, i mean nothing could possibly have preapired me for the first time i went with my mother to her Chemotherapy. The appointment started as any other whe checked in, she had her blood drawn, we spoke with her Nurse Practicioner. It wasn't until the nurse led us through these double doors that it hit me. There were 3 large rooms divided into sections and in each there were about 16-20 Reclining chairs full of people. Each person at diferent stages of Cancer and Treatment. I couldn't help it, it was all so overwhelming, I began to cry. The realization of just how many lives Cancer effects was such an emotion blow to me. It made me realize that Cancer does does not care about your age, sex, ethicity. it can rock the lives of anyone. My mother is in her second round of Chemotherapy before surgery and Radiation. My heavy heart and prayers go out to all the people and their families who are going through the battle against Cancer. We are here for you! Muche love ~ Shelly ~
