The Iconic Chateau Frontenac

If you have ever visited Quebec City, you will recognize this iconic building. It has dominated the skyline since it was constructed in 1893 as one of the grand railroad hotels. Grand it certainly is. It is now a member of the Fairmont Hotel Group. You can take a tour of the hotel that takes you to places that you won't see otherwise even as a guest. The hotel used to run these themselves but now you can sign up with a tour company and get to see the chefs rooftop garden among other things. We stayed at the Frontenac once with our grandson Alex. We had a turret room with views of the city and the river. They brought Alex cookies and milk in the evening and he loved wearing the bathrobe provided. They have three restaurants and of course, you can get room service. Even I was impressed with the rooms service it comes with a cart and domed dishes just like on TV. The hotel is located right on the Dufferin Terrace and you can walk out and look at the spectacular views of the St Lawrence River. Visitors to Quebec City can't help being impressed by the grand dame which has accommodated no less than the King and Queen of England, Winston Churchill, FDR and of course me!! lol If you can't afford to stay here, let's just say it isn't inexpensive, then you can at least enjoy looking at it or walking in the lobby. It is worth the effort.

wowzers, that's huge! i'm tryin' to 'nvision seein' such back'n the late 1800's, what a sight to 'hold! love that this' 's been maintained well 'n kept to code. many times that latter part 'tis a deterrent's folks wish not to spend the funds fer such. dang, they brought milk 'n cookies? sort'a like bein' a celebrity with all that pamperin', eh? i bet the views 'tis stunnin'. brilliant one can take a tour, admire 'er beauty without breakin' the bank.

lol He is 25 and he still talks about the gold elevator, (it is actually all brass but it was impressive. It was a once in a lifetime experience. It is very expensive so when we visit we stay right in the shadow of it in a small boutique hotel which is also very nice called the Chateau Bellevue.

I want to go there sometime. I was briefly in Montreal. I was surprised how warm it was in the summertime. It could have been Washington DC.

It can get very warm but only for a very few days, mostly it is very temperate and there is a breeze that comes down the St Lawrence River that keeps things comfortable. Montreal is farther south and the river is not quite as impressive down there plus, the old section is small compared to Quebec. I hope you get there, it is a lovely place.

I went to Quebec city only once for a business meeting many years ago but did not have time to visit. I really love Montreal!

Montreal is such a big city, it is more like New York and Quebec is more like Boston, night and day. I vastly prefer Quebec.

The location is perfect too. We like the Chateau Bellevue as well which is right behind it and less than half the price. I have stayed at just about every hotel in town at one time or other. lol

It is a great place to spend one night, you would need to take out a mortgage to stay a week lol We came in May before the season starts so were able to get a rate around $300 a night. In season more like $500

There are loads of really affordable hotels in Quebec, one night is enough at the Frontenac. I have lots of affordable and charming suggestions.

I have always wanted to go there but haven't got any further than Point Claire! I also want to see where that meteorite hit so long ago. It's one of those places that isn't far enough to plan a vacation, but I really should. From my family tree research, I must have about a zillion cousins living there! ;)

It is like visiting Europe, you will love it, Cobblestone streets, entertainment and festivals all summer long and spectacular views. The food is excellent too!! So much to see and do, you could spend a month and not see it all.

It is, and the whole city of Quebec is lovely. It is on two levels, Brussels reminds me of Quebec. Cobbled streets and 400 years old houses, all make for a great deal of charm.
