Today is the 158th birthday of our country's National Hero, Jose Rizal.
He's chosen as the hero of the Philippines for he fought for the freedom of the country against the colonial suppression of the Spaniards through his books, Noli Me Tangere (Touch Me Not) and El Filibusterismo (The Reign of Greed).
Rizal is a gifted person. He's a doctor, a farmer, a painter, a teacher, and a writer, novelist.
He was born in Calamba, Laguna on June, the 18th 1861. He died as martyr at the Luneta in firing squad after he was found guilty by the Spaniards of treason.
His heroism is under question. It's held in annoyance due to no legal basis. But Filipinos accepted him as their hero along with Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, Apolinario Mabini, Marcelo del Pilar, among others.

Such heros are immortal. I hope they are kept alive in memories for all that they did. Especially the younger generations should keep them alive and try to follow them. Salute to your national hero.

But it seems the school is no longer given them importance. Before we had a bulletin board about the hero.

@Nakitakona Oh ok I do not know that there is such an issue about his hero status. But it is taught in school and there is even a subject dedicated to his life already. So I wonder if that is already a sign that he is already recognized to be the hero already since there is already a mandate recognizing his contribution to our country.

The government hasn't approved it yet. No clear legal support or basis that he's the national hero. He may be a hero but not in the entire country.

@rsa101 Yes, there's a law that Rizal's life, works and teachings be taught in school and in college. But as a national hero is under consideration yet.

That's supposed to be. But their students don't know who is Rizal. It's a painful reality my friend.

@ShifaLk It's because they lack sufficient or proper education. Their values in life are inferior. They don't understand what patriotism is. Let's understand them for they need to be taken care on how they get our from the quagmire of poverty.
