2018-2019 Winter Worst for Honeybees

According to beekeepers the honeybees were hit hard over the last winter with the highest loss rate yet. 37.7% of honeybee colonies died this last winter, nearly 9% higher than average.
Bees pollinate $15 billion worth of U. S. food crops; and 1/3 of the human diet comes from various pollinators. This past winter's problem seems to center around mites. There is always a die-off of some sort during the winter; but the mite infestation is worsening; and the chemicals that kill mites don't seem to be working as well.
This could become a very serious problem in the future. We will have to see what happens.

I wonder why bee keeping isn't being encouraged.

I heard of one bee keeper that lost them all. He had close to 100 hives.

I will keep hoping for those bees. We had a beekeeper neighbor back in Latvia. I remember him working on his bees season after season and making sure they were all right in the winter.

A lot of people don't realize how important bees are!
